“99 Jahre Krieg ließen keinen Platz für Sieger,
Kriegsminister gibt’s nicht mehr und auch keine Düsenflieger,
Heute zieh’ ich meine Runden, seh’ die Welt in Trümmern liegen,
Hab’ ‘nen Luftballon gefunden, denk’ an dich und lass’ ihn fliegen…”

HOLY SKITTLES IT IS FINALLY DONE  ლ(ٱ٥ٱლ)

IT IS DONE! AFTER 5 DAYS! I have no words…

This all started because Nena’s “99 Luftballons” would not leave my head and I thought I would try my hand at drawing about the german unification.

Now for some interesting history tidbits:

The idea for the song came to Nena’s guitarist Carlo Karges during a concert in West Berlin when he
noticed that balloons were being released. As they flew further away he thought they looked like UFO’s. He then speculated what might happen if they floated over the Berlin Wall to the Soviet sector.

The fall of the Berlin Wall began the evening of 9 November 1989 and continued over the following days and week

If you want to experience what these people must have felt I suggest you look at this video.

I worked so hard on this and I am really happy with how it came out. They look so happy and relieved. If you look closely at their faces you can see tears forming.\(T∇T)/

The background is referenced but I only used it as a sketch template and then did everything again. I tried to be mindful of the clothes and the general atmosphere seen in most Berlin Wall Fall photos. After it was all done I tried to give it a vintage look which ended up like this.
